Here we go!

This is it. We are now at Helsinki-Vantaa airport, ready to start our adventure. We've packed our bags, we've prayed to God to bless this journey and now we are ready to take our first step. Our feelings are over the top. We're not nervous or afraid. Why would we, when we know Jesus is going to be walking right next to us? There's no other place I'd rather be.

This is everything we packed. Not much. But that was the point all along. We only take what is really necessary.

Our mom was kind enough to drive us to the airport. We woke up at 2:00 AM. Surprisingly we are not zombies at the moment. We are now waiting at gate 25, ready to take off towards Rome where we will change our plane.

Meep! This is just a fast update to let you know that we are about to finally, finally officially starting this trip. Pray for us!

Packing our bags

I'm not sure what happened, but we're leaving in three days. What? Where did the time go?! Gosh, it feels like we first started to talk about this journey yesterday. But it's been a year, and two more nights and we're off. Finally!

But what are we going to pack to our bags? Well, not much. As little as possible. Just the most important things. First, we needed bags. We all wanted to buy backpacks. Suitcase wasn't an option. So we did some researching and to our disappointment almost every backpack cost easily over 100€. Of course, we didn't want to buy the cheapest ones, because who would want their backpacks to break during a long travel. No, no. We wanted quality but we weren't ready to pay too much. We're picky like that :)

So in June, at Midsummer's Day, we went to Miia's home. We needed to swing by the grocery store and so to Prisma we go. We went there only to buy food, but Pia said let's go and see the sport section. Maybe there's something on sale. And these are what we found.

This is my backpack. It's 45 liters capacious.

Pia and Miia bought the same backpack. It's 40 liters capacious.

These beautiful bags were waiting for us. And the best part? They were -50% on sale. Talk about God's guidance. My green backpack's original price was 120€ and the black one cost 90€. So they cost 60€ and 45€. Not bad, not bad at all.

Next we wanted to buy sleeping bags. This is what we found from Stadium.

These weren't bad, but we really didn't jump from joy when we bought them. First of all, this sleeping bag is pretty big and it takes a lot of space. It weights almost 1 kilogram. Also, temperature in Hong Kong is over +30 degrees Celsius. This sleeping bag is comfortable at +13,30 degrees Celsius. Can you imagine just how uncomfortable it would be to sleep in these bags? I would probably drown in my own sweat. What a horrible way to go. So no, we weren't extremely happy. Of course, we could've bought these awesome sleeping bags that were light and perfect in hot conditions, but we sure as heck weren't going to pay 200€ for that.

But once again God knew what He was doing. Once again He showed us that everything is under His control. I was reading a travel blog and from there I found this website where they sell silk sleeping bags. And these bags made us jump from joy. They are ideal because it reacts to your body temperature. So when it's cold, it warms you up and when it's hot, it cools you down. So we instantly did some online shopping at silkkimakuupussi.fi and these are what we have now.

They are pretty, they're light and perfect, perfect, perfect. Pia and I were able to get a refund from our previous sleeping bags, but unfortunately Miia couldn't because she threw her receipt in the trash :( One bag weights only 140 grams. That's practically nothing. And they take so little space! It's so small it fits between your hands. Like this.

I want to film our adventure. I think it will be awesome to watch everything after we get back home, because photos only let you see that much. So video camera was needed. Not wanted. Needed. Once again we did some research. Video cameras these days aren't that big. They fit to the palm of your hand just fine, but I wanted something small. Nothing too noticeable. Our cousin Kalle were the one to convince us to buy an action camera. He would make a pretty good salesman. I was sold.

GoPro HERO 4 Silver
This is a thing of beauty. I love it. The quality of this camera is beyond amazing. You can take video or photos with this camera. This is also the only GoPro that has a touch screen. I can't wait to snap photos from oZone on the 118th floor or from Victoria Peak where the views must be breathtaking. Our dad bought this camera. It was my birthday/Christmas present (also Pia's Christmas present). So thank you, Dad! Thank you so so much :)

Because we are careful and we like to be prepared, first aid kit was a must have.

Not one, but two! Yeah, we are prepared if someone gets anything between a cut or a burn.

And last (but not least), we had to have a Bible. Of course we have one, but it's Finnish. We need to have English Bible, and once again it needed to be small. A friend of ours bought this for us. Thank you, Risto! :)

This is a New King James Version. There are so many different versions of the Holy Bible, but I like this one. It's simple and easy to read, but it also stays true to the Script. It's perfect for us.

So these are, I think, the most important items. Of course passports, clothes and all those other essential items will be packed too. But with these, our adventure is ready to begin. I'm not even counting days, I'm counting hours by this point. Just a little under 60 hours to go :D

I'll be writing before we leave so until next time!
